NU GEoclub

geoclub.jpgNU Geoclub is a DEEPS-affiliated community of students and faculty who love the Earth and want to talk about it, experience it through field trips, and care for it through community service. Geoclub welcomes attendees to their seminar series hosting post doc and grad student speakers. They plan and participate in outreach events to foster positive connections between NU and the local community through visits to local schools where members have opportunities to share their research, as well as service projects such as local cleanup events. Geoclub also organizes social events and field trips so people can get to know one another better within the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences and across departments.

ASG SusComm logoASG-Sustainability Committee (ASG SusComm): The Associated Student Government Sustainability Committee works to research, facilitate, and implement sustainability activities on campus. They aim to provide a unified, legitimate, and consistent voice from the students to the administration. They work closely with other campus groups to promote sustainability through academics, awareness campaigns, and tangible, impactful projects.

Cats Who Compost (CWC)

Cats Who Compost logoCats Who Compost (CWC) seeks to reduce food waste and promote sustainability through composting and provides composting education and resources to individual students, residential colleges, student groups, and academic departments. They offer 5-gallon bucket rentals for composting community members to bring home and several compost drop off bins located across campus.

The Bike Project

The Bike Project logoThe Bike Project promotes cycling and casual bike riding as an accessible, sustainable, and social activity among students, having workshops teaching repair and maintenance, and organizing social group rides around Evanston. The group seeks to enhance the overall student experience by promoting the benefits of cycling while supporting inclusivity, sustainability, and personal empowerment and promoting a cheaper alternative to travel around campus and beyond.

Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW)

ESW LogoEngineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) at Northwestern is a collegiate chapter of a national, non-profit network that mobilizes engineers through education, training, and practical action, building collaborative partnerships to meet the needs of current and future generations.  They are involved in on-going projects across the globe, including Nicaragua, Panama, and the Philippines.

Environmental Engineering Undergraduate Society (EnvEUS)

In Our Nature (ION)

ION logoIn Our Nature is a student-run publication based at Northwestern University which aims to engage and entertain readers with all aspects of the environment, nature and sustainability. ION has weekly publishing and has gained access to events such as the Chicago Green Fest, the Dalai Lama's birthday celebration, and more. The online publication aims to engage and entertain readers with all aspects of the environment, nature and sustainability. Coverage ranges from news about events in Evanston/Chicago and worldly news, to fun features about animals, to opinion pieces that allow contributors to voice their opinion and spark social action.

Northwestern University Solar Car Team (NUsolar)

NU Solar logoNorthwestern University Solar Car Team (NUsolar): NUsolar is a student-run team that designs, builds, and races completely solar-powered vehicles. Their goals are to promote a greater understanding of sustainable transportation technologies and provide an opportunity for students to gain real-world engineering project experience. NUsolar has built eight solar racers throughout it's history and travels across the nation each summer to compete with other university teams in the American Solar Challenge and Formula Sun Grand Prix solar car "rayces."

Northwestern University Thrift Store (NU Thrift)

NU Thrift logoNU Thrift is a student-run thrift store organizing pop-ups at the end of every quarter with proceeds going to social/environmental justice groups. The organization aims to promote a circular economy of reusing, repairing, and upcycling by diverting clothing and dorm necessities from Northwestern’s waste streams and redistributing these items to serve the Northwestern community at large, including faculty, staff, and students. They hope to make sustainable consumption accessible by organizing a local source for affordable thrifting directly on campus with the first-generation/low-income community at the forefront of leadership and operations.

Plant Futures Northwestern

Students for Ecological and Environmental Development (SEED)

NU SEED logoStudents for Ecological and Environmental Development (SEED) works to improve the state of the environment and to support progressive environmental movements through programming, service, and advocacy at Northwestern.  Their activities include speakers, concerts, weekly service trips to local restoration sites, and on-campus projects related to recycling and energy.  They are also one of the groups responsible for creating the Environmental Policy and Culture Program (EPC) and GREEN House.
